The question posed by the producer of this film (True PD) is as qouted in their presentation:
"How did a lying women beating stalker who uses drugs get hired as a Law Enforcement Officer? How does someone like this even get near an application, let alone manage to pass through background screening and drug tests, polygraphs and psychological evaluations?"
These are excellant questions that need to be addressed. In this segment we will attempt to answer these questions from a factual approach and let you the reader make up your own mind on these issues.
On 10/03/2024, Douglas Patrick McDevitt placed an employment application for the position of Law Enforcement Officer with the Lee County Sheriff Office in Fort Myers, Florida. McDevitt disclosed on his application that he had been arrested on 6/8/2007 by the Lee County Sheriff Office for Violation Injunction and by the Cape Coral Police Department on 05/25/2007 for Battery, by the Fort Myers Police Department on 10/01/2005 for Felony Eluding, and again on 10/09/2005 for Battery. McDevitt noted a number of traffic charges also. Further, on the last page of the application you will find that McDevitt had been referred to the Lee County Sheriff Office by Carmine Marceno. You will find all this information in (Exhibit 1)
It was noted on the LCSO Background Report (Exhibit 2 - page 17) that the Background Investigator in his report noted that the polygraph operator had stated on the Polygraph Report that it was his opinion that McDevitt had exhibit counter measures on the polygraph test and ended his report with “NO OPINION./INCONCLUSIVE - SUSPECTED COUNTER MEASURES”. It should also be noted here that LCSO could not release the full Polygraph Test report as these tests are exempt from 119 requests.
On Monday, June 16th, 2025, while attending the Lee County Sheriff Office Police Academy, McDevitt passed out in class and was told that he would have to take a drug test at which time McDevitt submitted his resignation (Exhibit 4).
Carmine Marceno released a response to this event on June 25, 2025. (Exhibit 8) It should be noted as a point of interest that McDevitt was involved in a business organization with Commissioner Kevin Ruane in 2018 through 2020 according to the background report. Commissioner Ruane was listed as one of the reference on the application.
As you read through this factual information you will have to decide that if you were the Sheriff would you have hired McDevitt as a patrol officer.
