The Hard Questions
No one (including the Commissioners) wants to oppose the requested funds that a Sheriff needs. The BOCC is designed to provide the Sheriff with funds of his needs not of his desires. The promotion of SELF in the budget does not rise to a need in the LCSO. The political influence of campaign funds needs to be removed in the relationship between the BOCC and the LCSO. What motivates the BOCC Commissioners to write a blank check with no oversight? Why has there not been a performace audit on the LCSO Budget?
