Sheriff Mike Scott

(The Meeting)

During an interview with the Fort Myers Newspress (August 5, 2020)[1] Mike Scott (previous Lee County Sheriff) was asked about Interim Sheriff Carmine. The Newspress article states:

"Former Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott said he first met Marceno in the mid-2000s, a few years after his first election in 2004. He said they were representing their agencies at a Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers fundraiser at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers. Scott said he remembers Marceno as high energy, professional and “just crisp in his uniform. “Basically me just throwing it out there, ‘Kevin (Rambosk) is a lucky guy to have you and I’d love to have someone like you on my team.’ Something along that line,” Scott said."

The article further added ”However, Marceno recalled the meeting slightly differently. He said Scott had a vision. “The vision was to one day ultimately get to where I’d be the sheriff.” Marceno jumped at the opportunity, moving to Lee County as a public services lieutenant, skipping over the sergeant rank. Marceno said he took what he was doing in Collier to Lee, building a community response unit and engaging with businesses in Cape Coral and along Metro Parkway in Fort Myers. Within a year, he was promoted to captain. Two years later, Scott named Marceno his undersheriff, or second in command, and Marceno supported Scott’s 2016 re-election campaign. Groomed by Scott, Marceno became the face of the agency. In 2017 he graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. “I really saw something in Carmine that I thought, and I still to this day think, is special,” Scott said."

Sheriff Mike Scott announced his early retirement and according to the interview with the Newspress asked Governor Rick Scott to appoint Marceno as the Interim Sheriff. Sheriff Mike Scott left the office in October 2018 at which time Marceno was appointed to the position of Interim Sheriff.

Sheriff Mike Scott accepted a position as the Florida Account Executive with Oasis Management System, Inc. on October 17, 2018. (Exhibit 1) Oasis has an active contract with the Lee County Sheriff Office and has for a number of years.
